Our main objectives are to:
Reduce pediatric and maternal mortality
Improve early recognition of sepsis
Improve education and public awareness
Translate research knowledge into practice
Reduce the impact of infections in Africa
Use data to improve care for sepsis
Focus on quality improvement in sepsis
Improve post-sepsis care
Build infrastructure and capacity, including for research
Reduce impact of sepsis on vulnerable groups
We intend to achieve this by focusing on the following key areas:
Run an advocacy and sepsis awareness campaign including use of the Kampala Declaration
Work with the WHO to operationalize the WHO Resolution on Sepsis
Develop practical guidelines with the WHO and other stakeholders
Improve recording of vital signs and infection control
Improve vaccination rates, antibiotic stewardship, and reduce antimicrobial resistance
Describe the burden of disease, key challenges for sepsis in Africa and the gaps
Identify, test and share improvement ideas including “exemplar sepsis improvement countries”
Identify and use patient and public advocates in everything we do
Generate collaborative research and innovation projects with all key stakeholders
Generate funding to run the alliance and projects
